Health insurance is complicated enough without multiple sets of codes to keep track of for billing purposes. Hopefully we are making your life a little easier this week. Yesterday we tackled MNT CPT codes and ICD-10 codes. Don't worry, the MNT coding fun doesn't stop there! Today we will dive into G codes.
G Codes are additional codes established by CMS to use with Medicare covered services. The number of MNT hours covered by Medicare is 3 hours in the initial calendar year with 2 hours in subsequent years if referred by a physician. In order to bill for additional hours of MNT service performed, use G codes!
G codes to know for additional MNT:
G0270: A 15 minute individual session for MNT reassessment and subsequent interventions following a second referral in the same year for a change in diagnosis, medical condition, or treatment regime.
G0271: A 30 min group session for MNT reassessment and subsequent interventions following a second referral in the same year for a change in diagnosis, medical condition, or treatment regime.
What if I offer Diabetes Self-Management Training? Don't worry, there are G codes for that too! Unlike with MNT though, DSMT G codes may also be used within private insurance companies. Make sure to check your contract with specific insurance plans to find out if these services are covered.
G codes to know for DSMT:
G0108: 30 minute individual sessions for diabetes outpatient self-management training services.
G0109: 30 minute group sessions
