Dietitians’ Social Media Tips

Last week, we shared “Five Marketing Musts” to get you thinking about your online and grassroots marketing efforts to build and grow your practice. Today, we’re sharing some fantastic social media tips from your fellow registered dietitian nutritionists who also happen to be social media rock stars!

When it comes to social media, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to focus your time and energy. These tips below highlight the importance of thinking through your social media strategy, knowing where and when to engage with your target audience, and seeking tools that help support your efforts. Without further ado, here are four tips to abide by!

My number one tip is be consistent and find a medium that you have the most engagement with your audience. There are so many new social media outlets and you don’t have to be everywhere especially if you aren’t able to keep up or are seeing engagements.

While consistency and quality are important, I think it’s most essential to have fun with social media. People most trust those who they feel connected to, so letting your audience get to know you, not just your recipes or nutrition recommendations, can really resonate. It helps build a following that is of quality, interested in what you have to say, not just there to look at a pretty food pic!

Use scheduling tools to make your life easier! Spend less time posting real time and be more targeted throughout the week instead. This can help increase enjoyment of using social media instead of breeding resentment. Tailwind, Tweetdeck, and Hootsuite are your friends.

Be yourself! Social media is all about being genuine and authentic so if you ever catch yourself writing something that isn’t 100% you, delete it and start again.
