As we all know, nutrition has far-reaching consequences on a global scale. Many of the most pressing development issues we face are related to accessing and maintaining a healthy diet. This week, we wanted to bring your attention to the newly published 2017 Global Nutrition Report: Nourishing the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
This report, authored by an independent group of experts and endorsed by some of the world’s leading health and development organizations, highlights some of the progress we’ve made globally toward improving nutrition. It also emphasizes our opportunities for growth; nutrition-related challenges affect every person on the planet. It discusses the negative social impacts of obesity and under-nutrition. Importantly, this report discusses how nutrition interfaces with each of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which include promoting health, eliminating poverty, enhancing gender equality, and living peacefully and sustainably.
The bottom line of the report is that we are faced with a number of exciting opportunities and challenges as we enter the New Year. This report provides us with the hope that our common goal of ending malnutrition worldwide is attainable, and that we are on the way to making the world a healthier place to live.
