Aetna Billing Changes: What You Need to Know

OCTOBER 19, 2018 UPDATE: If Aetna is one of the insurance companies that you're participating with, we want to let you know that Aetna’s recent nutritional counseling reimbursement policy update (see below) has been reversed. You should now be able to proceed with preventive claims filing as usual, and Aetna is reprocessing what they may have denied since August 26, 2018. If you haven’t seen any action on erroneously denied claims by the end of October, they should be re-submitted for processing. If you're an in-network provider with Aetna and filing claims on our platform, your designated Healthy Bytes billing ally is available to talk through this update with you and make sure that you're up to speed. As always, we're the experts in insurance so that you don't have to be!

If Aetna is one of the insurance companies that you're participating with, or plan to participate with, please be aware that Aetna has updated its nutritional counseling reimbursement policy. The insurance company will continue to reimburse for preventive care, but this update will necessitate some coding shifts in claims that you, as RDNs, can successfully submit for reimbursement.

If you're an in-network provider with Aetna and filing claims on the Healthy Bytes platform, your designated Healthy Bytes billing ally is available to talk through the changes with you and make sure that you're up to speed. We’re here to make sure you don’t experience any delay or disruption in eligibility or claims filing as a result of this change! We’re updating any impacted Aetna eligibility requests and filed claims to reflect the new changes. As always, given our automatic claims resolution effort, we’ll contact you about correcting and refiling any claims that may have been affected.

Healthy Bytes is equipped with the expertise to navigate this change on your behalf, and we’re available to be the experts in insurance so that you don't have to be! Don’t hesitate to reach out to your billing ally if you have any questions about this and how it may impact any of your pending and future claims. If you’re interested in getting billing support, we’re always happy to talk through how we can help.
