This week, we're interviewing Healthy Bytes' very own Iris Royster! Iris joins our North Carolina office as Payer Operations Manager. Read more about her past role at Aetna – what a perfect fit for Healthy Bytes! Iris brings her insurance experience to our team and we’re so excited to put her learnings into making your experience as a Healthy Bytes client that much better!
I knew I wanted to join the Healthy Bytes team when I spotted the job posting for the Payer Operations Manager. I was intrigued when I read about the background of the company and I immediately knew that I wanted to be part of the Healthy Bytes team! The mission of the company is something that I can relate to. After retiring from Aetna in 2017, I knew I wanted to stay in the healthcare industry but I wanted to be in a different space. I also like that Healthy Bytes is a smaller company that will allow me to grow with the company – I am eager to share my experience and ideas.
I love that Healthy Bytes partners with registered dietitians. I have worked with dietitians as part of my own personal health journey so I appreciate the work that you do! I am also eager to take on the challenge of running the Winston-Salem office and hiring new staff, setting up a customer support team and establishing workflows. This will be exciting and challenging at the same time! Most of us come from companies with workflows that have been in place for years. This time, we’ll have the opportunity to create and tweak our day-to-day processes so as best to respond to your queries and process your claims.
I have been thrilled by the commitment of the Healthy Bytes team. Amy Roberts, our CEO, is so down-to-earth! She has created a culture and work environment that is so inviting. Everyone has been so helpful and welcoming. We work hard but we also have fun at work.
I aim to continue to enhance my leadership skills as I lead the Winston-Salem office. I want to continue to learn about the Healthy Bytes platform and the services we have available to dietitians. I enjoy helping people and I love that people are taking control of their own health and wellness journey. I am excited to be a part of the Healthy Bytes team and I look forward to helping to grow the company.
As for my studies, I graduated from Guilford College with a BS in Business Management and a minor in Accounting. I worked at Aetna for 26 years as a customer service supervisor in the provider service center. During my career at Aetna, I was a claims processor, trainer, mentor and I managed multiple projects. I was also on various committees while at Aetna, my favorite being our Health and Wellness team. We were able to bring health fairs, fitness classes, a running club and numerous other healthy initiatives to the site.
On a personal level, I became focused on my own health and wellness about three years ago. I started eating healthy...well, healthier! I still love a good burger and fries every now and then. I began working with a dietitian and a personal trainer at that time, too. I began running which was something that I never thought I would enjoy doing. Since then, I have run several 5Ks and I plan to run a 10K later this year.
I encourage everyone to work on their personal wellness. It's never too late to start! If you have problems staying focused, work with a dietitian and/or a personal trainer. They will help hold you accountable. I nearly quit the run club on the second day because I couldn't run for two minutes. But now, I run for stress relief. Who knew!
We’re thrilled to have you on the team, Iris – welcome, welcome!
