Meet the Team: Joe Sullivan

Meet Healthy Bytes team member, Joe Sullivan! Joe is based in our New York office, where he started as an intern but has graduated to be a Billing Ally. Joe has a solid background in legislation and policy and feels strongly about access to nutrition counseling. We’re fortunate to have him on our team!

Meet Joe!

Hi there! I first found Healthy Bytes the Summer before my junior year at New York University. As a Global Public Health major, I sought an internship, but I wasn't interested in the research and lab positions that my classmates were choosing. Instead, I liked that Healthy Bytes was effecting real change to providers across the country. I knew I wanted to join the team because I felt like my work at Healthy Bytes could have a large impact for both providers and clients. As a Billing Ally, I continue to be reminded of the impact Healthy Bytes has on dietitians and their clients.

Currently, I am finishing up my final semester at NYU and will be graduating in December with dual majors in Global Public Health and Sociology, and a minor in Law and Society. Prior to Healthy Bytes, I worked on campaigns for legislation here in New York as well as in my home state of Massachusetts. I've always had an interest in the policy side of things, which is something I've found interesting in my role at Healthy Bytes. I like figuring out the insurance companies' policies, sorting through claims, and reviewing EOBs oddly satisfying! My past experience on the Billing Team also comes in handy when I need to direct the representative to the correct area of the member's plan to make sure their claim is being paid properly.

Healthy Bytes has been an amazing opportunity for me so far. I've been able to grow as a professional and learn more than I ever thought there was to learn about insurance! Most importantly, my time at Healthy Bytes always feels the most rewarding when I remind myself that each claim being processed is more than a name on a screen; it's a real person who's able to get the nutritional counseling they need.

My interests in policy, healthcare, and effecting change have pushed me to apply to law school. I'm not sure exactly where my future will take me, but I know that the work I'm doing at Healthy Bytes will have a lasting effect on my path forward!
